This is how Simon’s kitchen looked like in the fall of 2024 when I built it a couple of times for story purposes.
I’ve made or customized a lot of pieces here. The cupboard was originally brown. It’s real wood and very heavy. I gave it some decorations and a chabby chic finish with acrylic paints.
Here’s a more detailed photo of the rose vase decorations.
I’ve made the paper towel roll with its rack. Other items are bought.
And here’s a look at the normally hidden bottom shelves of the cupboard.
The kitchen counter is a little lower than I would like it to be, but the realism of the details makes up for it!
I’ve made the tiles by cutting different colored cardboards and gluing them together, then covering them with transparent D-C Fix film.
I’ve made the sprinkles in the little bottles from polymer clay. And I could have bought little hooks for the kitchen utensils, but I decided to save a bit and made them myself of gun metal colored jewelry sticks. Simon was brain damaged in the fall of 2023, and he lost his sense of hunger and thirst. So he often forgets to eat regularly and has to remind himself especially of breakfast.
Some self-made marshmallows here. Made by Simon, or me in reality!
I use xylitol pastille boxes as Simon’s recycle bins, and the style of these Mauri Kunnas ones suits Simon so well that I didn’t want to remove the wraps! The pink radiator is made by me of wood, foam core board and some jewelry supplies. This is the second radiator I’ve made already. Simon also has one in his bedroom and another one in his living room. I had to make at least two in case I someday manage to set up two rooms at the same time.
There’s Simon’s crocheted little mandala on the wall… It was supposed to be a bigger mandala, but it didn’t quite turn out like I wanted, so I left it like that. I may finish it one day or start another one. It was supposed to be a blanket, and would have been big enough for that had I finished it. The pattern is Sophie’s Universe by Dedri Uys, and you can find it here.
The floor tiles are my own design that I drew, painted and then scanned and printed on paper and covered with transparent D-C Fix film for some shine. I had to design just one tile to make it a pattern covering several tiles.
Simon’s kitchen is quite cluttered… and of course there is a wine rack in the Frenchman’s kitchen!
Simon usually only drinks a glass a week with a meal. He’s sophisticated like that.
I’ve made the yellow wooden shelf and three of the books, and the plants and most of what is in the bottles.
The “wheat flour” is actually cornstarch because I just happened to need some of it and then didn’t want to throw it away. The sugar I’ve made from polymer clay.
I’ve made these sprinkles and almond slices, too.
The meringues and chocolate chip cookies are made by me… I mean, Simon of course!
Simon’s got some stylish kitchen equiptment here… He’s such a coffee addict that he has to have more than one coffee machine!
Here’s a better look at the kitchen furniture and the amazing oven I bought from AliExpress seller Me & House.
Here’s the kitchen table and chairs… the same ones I used for Sybil. The table cloth is just a piece of fabric with a pattern that suits Simon well.
Here’s a couple of heartleaf philodendrons (Philodendron scandens) I’ve made with masking tape, wire, flower tape and acrylic paints.
And here’s my version of what is called for example a Chinese money plant (Pilea peperomioides). I’ve also made the macrame hangers and painted this pot. I plan to make more plants in the near future, as Simon is nuts about them!
Here’s one of Simon’s pizzas. It has cremini mushrooms, red onion and tomato, with vegan cheese and mint leaves on top.
